Tokaido

Tokaido is a traditional Japanese brand within the karate world, which has been producing karate suits since 1956. Initially intended for the domestic Japanese market and later on the products found its way to the rest of the world. Tokaido has been one of the best karate suit manufacturers for over 65 years. In the early 1980s we already sold the Tokaido karate suits at Aiki-Budo Sport, which were all made in Japan at the time. For several years now, in addition to their factory in Japan, they also have a production line in China.

Tokaido Karate suits

Karate consists of two different main subjects, with different requirements for the karate suit for each subject. There’s the Kata, where you have to perform different “Katas” and the Kumite, where you spar against an opponent.

For these two styles, you also have two different suits, the Kata suit and the Kumite suit. Kata suits are heavier and made of a firmer fabric, so that the suit makes the characteristic sound while performing the exercises or katas.

Kumite suits, on the other hand, are made of a finer fabric so that the athlete is not hindered during sparring. We have many different Tokaido karate suits in our range, in different quality for both styles:

  • Tokaido kata karate suits;
  • Tokaido kumite karate suits;
  • Tokaido junior karate suits.

Tokaido Karate protection equipment

Tokaido was the first company in the world to produce suits exclusively for karate. The suits are still all handmade. The fabric is lightly woven and some suits are even lightly brushed on the inside, so that the fabric feels pleasant on the skin and does not irritate (even when you wear it for a longer period). The suits can last up to ten years! In addition to karate suits, Tokaido produces many more martial arts items especially suitable for karate, such as:

  • Chest protectors;
  • Shin guards and instep guards;
  • Karate gloves;
  • Sports bags;
  • Karate belts.

Tokaido WKF approved

A large part of the Karate suits and protectors are approved by the World Karate Federation and can therefore be used at all international competitions. So you don't have to buy a separate suit for training and a different one for competitions. The Tokaido karate suits are a good investment due to their long lifespan!
