Shinai Japan Size 3.9
A Shinai is actually a bamboo sword. It consists of 4 bamboo slats (take) that are held together by a leather protective cover (saki-gawa) at the top and a leather handgrip (tsuka-gawa) at the other end. These 2 are held together by means of a nylon string (tsuru). Because they are so light, very fast movement can be made with them. Thanks to the Shinai and a bogu is it possible to have a safe, yet real fight, using full force and speed.
