Tabi socks, or split-toe socks, have been worn in Japan since the 16th century. With the Tabi socks the big toe is separate from the other toes. They are developed to wear with sandals and with the famous Japanse wooden clogs called geta. In the martial arts it is people who practice for example Kendo, Iai-do and Ninjitsu who wear the Tabi Socks.
