Wacoku Gel Mouth Guard

During the sparring sessions it's best to wear a mouthguard. By wearing a mouthguard you kind of protect your teeth, but mostly you protect your jaw. Once you see a fist coming your way, you tense up (and bite down!) if you bite down on the mouthguard, your jaw will be tensed as well and this will help prevent any broken bones and/or bone fractures.

This mouth guard has a gel layer on the inside, which will form around your teeth and be more comfortable. This layer will also help keep it in it's place as it's a little bit more form-fitting. The mouthguard comes with a little box to keep it in and a manual to help you form the mouthguard. Underneath we will explain the basissteps for custom fitting your own mouth guard.

Also available in junior (white).

How do I form my mouthguard?

If you buy a mouthguard it will first need to be molded to your mouth, no two mouths are the same! By heating the mouthguard (with hot water, so be careful!) you can mold the inner layer to your own teeth. Follow these steps to custom fit your mouthguard:

  • Boil water in a pan or tea kettle, once the water is boiling pour it in a bowl that's capable of handling heat.
  • Drop the mouthguard in the hot water and leave it in there anywhere between +/- 30-60 seconds to warm/soften it
  • If the gel layer is soft enough, take the mouthguard carefully out of the water and put it in your mouth (be careful here!)
  • Gently press on the teeth and softly 'nibble' on the mouthguard. If you bite down too hard, you can bite all the way through, so being gentle is key.
  • If you are satisfied with the shape and feel, carefully take it out and put it in a bowl with cold water so the gel layer can become solid again. That's all!
